“Illegal” downloading isn’t going away. Fans love music, but don’t always love paying for it. The solution to keep musicians clothed and fed is not through aggressive legislation (all that does is keep corporate execs fat). Emphonik offers a possible solution, where fans and artists win.
You buy an album, and spread the word. When people you’ve referred buy the album, they say who sent them. At the end of campaign, the person who refers the largest volume of sales gets a cut. The more an album sells, the bigger the top prize. Pretty sweet, huh?
In the case of our pilot, Benjamin Samuel is offering the top referrer 10% of the gross album sales (3% for second place, 1% for third), with a maximum payout of $100,000. It may sound like a lot of money, but that’s really up to you now, isn’t it?
Also, funny business is bad for business. Transparency matters; so there will be an active leader board displaying the top 5 referrers.
